LOG PROCUREMENT POLICY

SFI^® principles, objectives, and performance measures enforce, uphold, and validate responsible forestry practices and effective forest stewardship. It serves as the standard set of guidelines, ensuring the successful integration of tree cultivation and harvesting while safeguarding plants, wildlife, soil, air, and water quality.

As wood purchasers, we ensure that the timber comes from well-managed forests. To meet this responsibility and to help guide our compliance with the SFI® Standard, we have developed the following Log Procurement Policies.

• Stimson advocates for log supplier education. We offer insights on the significance of reforestation, Best Management Practices (BMPs), and identification and preservation of crucial habitat elements essential for wildlife and biodiversity, such as Forests with Exceptional Conservation Value.
• Stimson encourages log suppliers to use Qualified Resource Professionals (QRPs) and Qualified Logging Professionals (QLPs). We also support their involvement in professional logger training programs and encourage them to certify their properties under programs like SFI or ATFS. Landowners can request a list of QLPs. When there is an opportunity to purchase "gate wood," preference will be given to log suppliers utilizing QLPs. Stimson will only contract with QLPs in the harvest of fee and stumpage sales, which are under our direct control.

• Stimson requires that all wood supplied to our facilities adhere to local and state Forest Practice regulations or BMP guidelines. We will not accept logs that knowingly violate these regulations or BMPs, such as operations conducted in adverse weather conditions. Per our policy, we do not buy wood from operators with ongoing forest practices or BMP violations.
• Stimson requires proof of your state-approved harvest compliance permit (as applicable before issuance of a Log Purchase Agreement or payment.
