INDIGENOUS PEOPLES
Our goal is to broaden the practice of sustainable forestry on all lands through community involvement, socially responsible practices, and recognition of and respect for the rights of Indigenous Peoples and traditional forest-related knowledge.
Field trip with members from UCT, Kalispel Tribe, and Spokane Tribe to locate trees on Stimson lands suitable for building tribal canoes.
Culturally Important Land
Stimson's lands contain numerous tribal cultural heritage sites and important culturally significant flora and fauna. Respecting Indigenous heritage, Stimson values and supports their traditional land use rights. We engage in open dialogue and training sponsored by local tribes to understand their forest-related practices and concerns better.
Stimson recognizes the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and relevant state and federal laws, regulations, relevant treaties, agreements, and other arrangements between governments and Indigenous Peoples.
Partnering with Local Tribes
We often coordinate with local members from UCT, Kalispel, and Spokane Tribes to locate trees on Stimson lands suitable for building tribal canoes. We’ve also worked with the Coeur d’Alene Tribe to enhance streams for future generations.
